Ashesi students serve as agents of change across Africa.

Ashesi University is an African initiated nonprofit college in Accra, Ghana. Our mission is to educate a new generation of ethical and entrepreneurial leaders in Africa and to cultivate within our students the critical thinking skills, concern for others and courage it will take to transform their continent.

Ashesi prepares students to lead and innovate.  A rigorous liberal arts core stresses ethics, creative problem solving and critical thinking. Cutting-edge programs in Business Administration,  Management Information Systems, Computer Science and Mechanical, Electrical, and Electronic Engineering prepare students to excel in their fields. Leadership seminars, community service projects, and corporate internships engage students in local challenges and highlight local opportunities, while international exposure through internships with multinational companies and exchanges with U.S. universities prepares students for a globalized workplace. A student-initiated honor code reinforces ethical values on campus, placing responsibility in the hands of the students. Real-world projects challenge students to create innovative, practical solutions to Africa’s needs.

Patrick Awuah

Ninety three percent of Ashesi graduates find quality placement within months of graduating–more than 90 percent of them stay in Africa.  Ashesi graduates young Africans with the skills, confidence, and ethical courage they need to serve as agents of change across the continent.

Ashesi University Founder and President Patrick Awuah was named one of twenty-four MacArthur Foundation 2015 Fellowship recipients for his work in higher education in Africa. Recipients are selected based on three criteria: exceptional creativity, promise for important future advances, and potential for the fellowship to facilitate creative work. Read more
