MCCC–Think Success: Students at Montgomery County Community College Raise Money for Aid for Africa
Friday, June 21, 2013: Students enrolled in Montgomery County Community College’s Introduction to Anthropology course raised funds for Aid for Africa and four other charities. Anthropology instructor, Lynn O’Brien, looking for a way for her students to become more civically engaged, had each of classes break up into small groups and implement various fundraising tactics in support of a charity of their choice. Students were then evaluated on their PowerPoint presentations, peer assessments and fundraising success. “Since I can’t ask students to go abroad and volunteer, my alternative was to raise money here in the U.S. to help people already working abroad to make the world a better place,” she explained.
