NPR: Green Belt Movement Founder Discusses East African Famine
Wednesday, August 3, 2011: Appearing on NPR’s Tell Me More, Nobel Laureate and Green Belt Movement founder Wangari Maathai discusses the long-term solutions that can help prevent droughts in Africa from turning into famines. Preventing large numbers of people from settling in forests who in turn divert water from local rivers is one way. “Governments need to do their part before the tragedies take place” she said.
