New York Times: Museum for African Art’s Exhibition of Jane Alexander’s Work Praised
Thursday, April 25, 2013: Aid for Africa member Museum for African Art‘s exhibition by South African artist Jane Alexander highlights the beast in the human and human in the beast. Art critic Holland Cotter praises “Jane Alexander: Surveys (From the Cape of Good Hope)” for its “painstakingly calibrated ambiguity (which) leaves it open to spiritual interpretation and political speculation.” “In Ms. Alexander’s art there are no good final answers, no clear comforts. What there is is moral gravity — political, poetic — and a deep, peculiar beauty that doggedly clings to margins, where the mysteries are, and soars,” according to NY Times art critic Holland Cotter. The exhibit appears at St John the Divine in New York City. Read article and view photos
