New York Times: Museum for African Art Will Be Only Second Devoted to African Art in US

Sunday, June 20, 2010: When the Museum for African Art opens its new building at 110th and Broadway in New York in 2011, it will be only the second museum in the US devoted solely to African art. The first is the National Museum of Art in Washington, DC. Elsie McCabe Thompson, president, expects the museum, which has relied on traveling exhibitions over the last twenty-six years, to bring Africa into the limelight in Harlem and be another destination for visitors to the city’s famed Museum Mile.
