Global Action for Children
Works to increase funding for and improve the programs that provide health care, education, food, and safety to orphans and vulnerable children in Africa and other areas in the developing world.Global Action for Children works to increase the funding for and improve the programs that provide health care, education, food, and safety to orphans and highly vulnerable children in Africa and elsewhere in the developing world.
Our unique strength lies in the diversity of our coalition partners and allies and our ability to mobilize a broad range of constituencies to advocate for children at risk.
We work to increase funding for children’s programs and ensure that funds are spent effectively, so all children have the health care, education, food, and protection they need to grow up safe and healthy.
We educate policymakers and the public about the needs of children and what can be done to help them, raise awareness in communities and in the media, and bring groups together to give a larger voice to the critical concerns we all share.
Global Action has led and worked with partners on a number of successful campaigns to help children in Africa and elsewhere. Since 2004, with our partners we have helped to:
Pass into law the Assistance for Orphans and Other Vulnerable Children in Developing Countries Act, P.L. 109-95, the first-ever comprehensive legislative response to the global crisis for orphans and vulnerable children.- Educate members of the U.S. Congress on the need to help poor countries eliminate school fees, resulting in $15 million toward that goal annually.
- Support many efforts highlighting the plight of children, including co-sponsoring Northern Uganda Lobby Day, World AIDS Orphan Day and the Stop the Silence: Stop Child Sexual Abuse Race.
