Foundation for Hospices in Sub-Saharan Africa

The Foundation for Hospices in Sub-Saharan Africa (FHSSA) believes that we are members of a global village and must provide compassionate care where the need is great and resources are few. Our mission is to support organizations as they develop and provide hospice and palliative care throughout sub-Saharan Africa.

Today, more than 78 hospice partners from organizations across the United States help advocate for and assist in the provision of quality, compassionate hospice and palliative care in 16 African countries. In 2008, more than 55,000 patients and their families were served by one of our partners.  FHSSA collaborates with other national and international organizations to develop and expand comprehensive hospice and palliative care services that have helped thousands of patients and their families in  Tanzania and Zimbabwe.

Specifically, the Foundation for Hospices

• connects 156 organizations in the US and Sub-Saharan Africa through our partner model to collaborate for quality, comprehensive, compassionate hospice and palliative care.
• builds and supports comprehensive care services in order to transform communities, families, and individuals.
• sustains and expands our efforts through individual and collective investments to multiply the benefits of our services.
• engages partners, individuals, businesses, and foundations in our work on the ground.
