African Conservancy
Works with partners in Africa to protect and rehabilitate wildlife areas, supports education to reverse trends in habitat destruction, and funds the Adopt-An-Animal program in Zambia. The African Conservancy’s aim is to preserve the last remaining African wilderness for the benefit of wildlife and humanity — to reinvigorate and sustain the once harmonious relationship between indigenous people, their cultural heritage, and the surrounding wildlife population.
We accomplish this by working with local partners to protect and rehabilitate wilderness areas and to bring about socioeconomic changes that reverse trends in wilderness destruction.
Our efforts have focused on Zambia, which because of its location and current conditions offers the greatest opportunities and the most government support to accomplish our mission. Successful programs include anti-poaching training and support, wildlife education, and humanitarian missions such as famine relief and funding for wells. We work with the local business community to promote initiatives that preserve cultural traditions. An organic farming cooperative teaches Luangwa Valley residents to supply organic produce to the local tourism industry.
It is our belief that the fate of all humans is determined by human behavior at large, so we also provide education for our U.S.-based constituents and opportunities for our members to visit the projects they fund through our Traveler’s Legacy program.
