Lucy Lekidayo
Lucy Lekidayo is an orphan who was raised by her older brother. She studied agricultural engineering at Kaiboi Technical Training Institute in Eldoret, Kenya where she focused on learning about the general repair and maintenance of tractors, vehicles and agricultural equipments. After a
competitive application process, Lucy received a full scholarship from Aid for Africa partner, The BOMA Fund to attend EARTH University.
The BOMA Fund is a grassroots micro-finance organization that works with the pastoral nomadic communities of northern Kenya. In order to effect lasting positive change, The BOMA Fund also invests in the education and leadership training of role models and job creators. They do this through their Agents of Change program which recruits ambitious students to attend EARTH University in Costa Rica.
As one of just a few African women at EARTH, Lucy distinguishes herself because of her enthusiasm, maturity and leadership abilities. In her third year, Lucy is passionate about agriculture, and takes great pride in the fact that she can take apart a tractor and put it back together again. Lucy will be returning to Kenya in August 2010 to complete an internship with AMPATH in Kenya, focusing on food and income security programs. In January 2011, Lucy will return to Costa Rica and EARTH University for her final year.
